Registration Deadline for Classes and Overnight stays is August 21st, 2007. The sooner you get your registration in the more likely it is that you can get the class you want, or the room you would like to reserve.

Walk-Ins are welcome. You MUST register at the door and pay the registration fee.

Workshops:

If you have ever been interested in learning to weave, spin or work with fibers this is an opportunity to begin to learn and connect with other fiber artists. Both women and men will enjoy and are welcome for the classes.

Workshop fees are now up (also offering an audit of the workshop--no hands on help just observe . No reservation needed for audit but everyone must pay the registration fee) Late fees apply to walk-ins.

Class rooms will be dedicated to the class and will be available for students the entirety of the For-'em so they may work on their projects after class hours.

These are elective Classes to be held in the late afternoon or evening. They will be schedualed at the time of the Event, and announced at the registration table. Spur of the moment classes, they can be paid in advance, or at the time of the event!

Class 1

Advanced-Beginning Weaving: (2 days)

If you have a loom, you may bring it and warp your own loom, then flow through to the weaving class. If you are warping your own loom warp for a 12 dent reed at 144 threads 3 1/2 yards in length. You will need to use 8/2 cotton or equivalent, contact if you have questions. You will have a choice for patterns to weave and please inquire. There will be 6 workshop looms on first come first serve basis, and you need to speak for one at the time you send in your registration. The looms will be: 3-36 inch 4 harness Artistats; and 2-22 inch 4 harness Artistat; 1 22 inch 4 harness Norwood. Those who do not have a loom and use one of the looms supplied for the class must have their weaving complete before the end of the For-'em (Warping and Beginning 4-harness). No audits, or walk-ins for this class. Maximum students=8. Class will be taught by Margrett Stretton, and Charlene Quinilty. This class will start with teaching basic parts and terminology of the loom, how to determine warp thread and weft thread weights. If you have warped your loom and have your own you will be able to begin weaving at this point. If your loom is not warped you will need to begin the warping process Friday morning after the introductory. The Workshop looms available can be warped for you at a fee of $30.00 extra. The class will be a sampler 10 inches in width and 3 1/2 yards in length approximately. The Friday morning class will go into figuring needed yardage for a project, and determining the center point of the reed and loom. There will be a short lecture on how to read drafts and how to tie the loom up for weaving. Saturday will be devoted to weaving.

Circular Sock Knitting Machine (CSM) Class

Basics

Please note that these are two classes. The class on Friday is for the Basic Class and the class on Saturday is for the Ribber Class. Peggy will help in the afternoons to practice what you have learned in the morning class.

If you are still struggling with the cast on process--this class is for you. I will show you how to clean, oil and set your CSM up to knit. Your machine will need to be complete and in good working order-no missing parts. If you have not purchased new needles for your machine, you will probably need to do so. Bring yarn to use suitable for your machine (sock yarn, or fingering weight) along with all your tools, scissors, oil and waste yarn. An extra cyclinder spring and needles are good to have on hand especially if your machine has been sitting for a long period. You will need to bring your CSM stand and a light. Class with cover, setting up the machine to knit, making a hemmed top, picot edging, mock ribbing, making heels and toes.

Circular Sock Machine Using the Ribber Attachment

In this class, we will expand to using the ribber on the CSM. Class will cover functions of ribber parts, setting the ribber up, and making various types of ribbing.

Prerequisite: CSM Basics Class.

Knit Color Work Class:

Purpose: To help the beginning knitter learn fair-isle techniques for borders and slightly larger motifs and some intarsia techniques as well. Project will be a small pillow top that incorporates these skills. Materials fee will include yarns, handouts, and needles. Class will be taught by Beth Syron.

Beginning Machine Knitting

If you have a knitting machine, but do not know where to begin this is the class for you. If you don't know if you would like machine knitting but want to see what it is about, this is also your class. We will start by setting up the machine and talking about maintenance. we will also talk about tensions and what yarns are suitable for each machine gauge. When you leave this class, you should know how to do two types of cast ons and two bind offs. You will also learn how to make and measure a swatch so you can check your stitch gauge. You will recieve a pattern for a scarf that will be suitable for Christmas presents.We will cover the techniques in the scarf in class including two machine knit trims, and you should be able to make it when you get home. Students should bring their single bed machine and all accessories to class. Please state your brand of machine and model number on the class registration form. You may supply your own yarn, or work from a kit with a cost of $5.00. Machine rental may be available by prior arrangement. Alpaca and Llama Care, Fleece & Breeding

A short discussion about the Alpaca, and Llama on care, fleece and breeding will start this class. We will discuss Skiritng and sorting of the fleece with hands on time. The last part of the class will be spinning alpaca fiber. Students will learn about, and spin all three grades of alpaca fiber. The student needs to have some knowledge of spinning. Mohair Spinning in the Curl:

Using Your Garter Bar

The Garter Bar Class will give students hands on practice with their Garter Bar. They will learn how to use a Garter Bar to hold stitches, increase and decrease across a row and turn their knitting. We will be knitting a practice sampler with these techniques on it. Students need to bring a garter bar that is for their machine as well as all accessories. This is a great class for those who have a Garter Bar but have never mastered it. Please state your brand of machine and model number on the class registration form. You may supply your own yarn or work from a kit with a cost of $20.00. Machine rental may be available by prior arrangement. Lace Scarf-Intermediate Knitting:

Project Scarf--an adaption of Russian Lace. Techniques for lace taught and you will learn to read a chart and follow a lace pattern. Basic knitting skills needed. 6-8 students maximum. Taught by Beth Syron, and approximately 2 hours. You can bring either #5 straights (10 inches long) or a size 5 circular (24 inches long).

Quill & Wheel Spinning:

learn to spin using a Quill, whether it be Walking Wheel, Charkha, drop spindle or Saxony Quill. The class will be expanded to enclude Wheel Spinning, and plying if time permits. This class will be a relaxed short course. Taught by Margrett Stretton friday afternoon late class, lasting about 2 hours. . Maximum students=8.

Entralac on the Knitting Machine

In the Entralac Class, students will learn how to make Machine Knitted Entralac. We will be discussing designing projects for Entralac. Entralac is a great way to showcase those space dyed or variegated yarns. The class project may be a face cloth or dish rag. Please state your brand of machine and model number on the class registration form. Kit will be supplied with a cost of $20.00. Machine rental may be available by prior arrangement. Wet Felting

This Class will focus on the technique of wet felting. Be sure and wear clothes that are wash and wear as we will be getting wet, very wet. The focus of this class will be making felted slippers, felted on your own feet so they will fit. Class taught by Marlene Calame using wet felting with water, detergent. The project will be completed in class. 2 hour class, and is limited to 6.

Basic Sheep & Goat Care:

Learn basic care for sheep & goats. We will cover feeding and foot care, parasite control, & record keeping. We will be introducing students to fecal samples with a microscope and a McMaster slide to count eggs using the "Veterinary Parisitology Reference Manual" by William J. Foreyt. Question and answer session at the end of the class. The students will be given an outline that will enclude sample record sheets, & referance information. Maximum students: 9, no observers. There will be no materials fee unless students request McMaster slides, which are extra and need to be requested at least 4 weeks ahead of class. Class to be taught by Rhonda Selser, Susie Stretton, and Norman Stretton. Class will be about 4 hours.

Color Fact and Fancy: Not Just for the Beginner:

Class duration: 2 days, 2 hours each day. Materials need for class: scissors, 36 heavy cardboard (like matt board) rectangles 2" X 6" and 1 heavy cardboard rectangle 2" X 12", please no color other than white, or light to medium grey, small bottle of glue. I will have some extras if needed. Class discription: Day 1: Hands on working with color. We will be looking at color relationships, and values that can be transferred from the world of two-dimensional painting to integration into a three-deminsional fiber work. Day 2: Weaving samples of the color work from the previous class. Bring any troublesome yarn or fiber that you may be having trouble using because of it's color. If you have a finished project that you want to have critiqued please bring this also. Bring your yarn or yarns that you are struggling to find colors to go with.

Please note that no previous art experience is necessary for these classes. These classes are intended to introduce color theory to beginners and to brush up and review for the more experienced. Class taught by Albion Norman. Maximum students limited to 10, no observers.

In this class you will learn how to felt using a felting needle, making small 3 dimensional figures in a dry method. Class is taught by Sara Syron and lasts about 2 hours. Maximum students=8.

Wool Preparation:

Learn the basics in how to prepare a freshly shorn fleece through ready to spin fiber. Lecture on preparing wool fleece for cleaning, dyeing, and spinning. Some hands-on. Taught by Rhonda Selser. Maximum students=6.

You will learn knit/beading technique and make a project bracelet. Materials will include knitting needles, beads, thread, beading needle and nymo thread with a handout outlining project and techniques. You will need basic knitting skills for this class. Taught by Beth Syron.

Learn how to ply using a nostepinde, balls, or bobbins to make a balanced yarn. In this class emphasis is placed on easy plying without stress. 1 hour class, requiring the student to have a spining wheel and a singles yarn ready to ply. Taught by Margrett Stretton. Student needs to be able to spin.

Beginning Bobbin Lace

Bobbin lace is a historical technique done to create the lace edgings used on garments and accessories. Being polular from the 15th - 18th centuries, it died out when they discovered how to make lace by machine.

In this class you will learn what materials are needed to make bobbin lace, the terms used in the making of bobbin lace, and how to prepare your bobbins, prickings and pillow. Basic stitches used to weave a Torchon bobbin lace sampler will be explained, demonstrated and taught.

Maximum # of Students=10, no observers. Class will be taught by Barb Wilde and Heather Gonzales of Rosewood Yarns.

Torchon Bobbin Lace Bookmark

This Class will take you beyond the basics of bobbin lace. In it you will learn how to "read a pricking", how to begin a bookmark, and how to weave specialty stitches needed for the pattern.

Students will need to bring their supplies from the previous class or they may purchase their own pillows, pins, thread and bobbins from our vendor booth. The materials fee covers the book, "The Bobbin Lace Manual", by Geraldine Stott which we will be working with and the pricking to be used in class.

Maximum # of Students=10, no observers. Class will be taught by Barb Wilde and Heather Gonzales of Rosewood Yarns.

There is a camp motel on the grounds where you do not have to furnish anything (2 queen sized beds in all rooms) or a bunkhouse where you have to bring your own towels and linens. (a extra air or foam mattress is recommended for you comfort at the Bunk House). The motel rooms are on a first come first serve basis and the others will have to use the bunkhouse. (meals are Friday - breakfast, lunch & supper; Saturday - breakfast, lunch, and supper; Sunday - Breakfast) all prices include taxes.

For day people wishing to eat in the Cafeterial meals will be priced at : $5.00

RV hook up are available at $15.75 for each night you stay, which includes water, electricity, sewerage, and facility fees. Meals not included.

Door prizes from participates are accepted and welcome, but please if you donate a door prize please donate only something that you would not mind getting yourself and that is related to spinning, weaving, and other fiber arts.
