Getting Started on Your Knitting Machine

If you have a knitting machine, but no idea where to start, this is the class for you. We will lubricate your machine and verify it is in working order. We will learn how to cast on, knit a standard tension swatch, and cast off. We will learn to block the tension swatches.

Bring your machine main bed only--and all books and accessories that came with the machine. You will also need a stand or table for your machine. Electronic machine owners should bring and extension cord.

If your machine has a sponge bar or sponge retainer strip, check to be sure that the strip does not need replacement prior to coming to class. With the strip or bar inserted in the machine, the needles should be held firmly down against the machine bed. If the needles are raised away from the machine bed or push down, you need a new sponge. Machines that hae been stored for more than 2 years will most likely need a new strip or bar. If you are unsure, please contact Liz prior to coming to class. She will advise you and will refer you to a dealer where you can obtain the proper sponge strip or bar for your machine. If the sponge strip or bar is bad, you will not be able to knit on your machine in class. Bond or USM machines do not have this strip, most of the other machines do.

For those with punch card or electronic machines, we will do a simple pattern, time permitting.

All students put your machine make and model on the registration form. This is a class for the absolute beginner.

Machine rental may be available by prior arrangement. Taught by Liz Arthur of Roanoke, Texas. email at Liz, or call 817-431-2835. Maximum student=6.
