Shirley Spearow is a foreigner, being from Texas, but she loves La. and has many friends here. She has sewn most of her life, starting making school clothes when in second grade from feed sacks. When she married in 1962, scraps were available but bedding was expensive, so piecing quilts was natural. She is mainly self taught, with a vast collection of literature on the subject as well as the many other crafts she's learned over the years. She began crocheting in her early teens and knitting at about 18. Spinning and rug weaving were a natural growth direction. Professionally she spent 30+ years in the florist and nurseryman business, and 17 as a volunteer fireman and EMT and then EMTI. Now that she's retired she has more time for the things she loves: her family, Church, community activities, home, greenhouse and garden, various types of livestock and of course her Siamese and Balinese kitties. She can still be found most of the time, in her studio, making something pretty. She'll be the first to tell you she's married to her best friend. Together they have a very large family. Her husband Jacque, is a retired Mechanical Engineer. He still enjoys working around the ranch, and is very active in Cub Scouts and Church. He too is very artistic, and putters with wood and lapidary.
