Sett Gauges are used to determine the WPI (wraps per inch) of a yarn, wether single or plied.
 Begin wrapping your yarn around either the 1" or 2" section of the gauge. Wrap each turn closely so that the wood does not show between the strands, but without stretching the yarn. Once the secion is covered, count the number of times the yarn wrapped. If you used the 2" section, divide the number by 2. Now you know the WPI of your yarn.
